Navigation software
reads and displays digital charts (in BSB4 format).
Different softwares
perform different tasks, but in general you can do the following with
navigation software:
- view charts with great clarity - all depths can be read
easily
- magnify charts
- show the latitude and longitude for the exact location of the
mouse
- mark routes
- measure distances
- connecting a GPS to a computer will provide real-time
navigation so you can see your boat move across the screen
- some navigation software also includes a function that
operates on handheld computers (PDAs)
Important notice:
Digital charts on CD-ROM produced by Canadian Hydrographic Service do not
contain any viewing or navigation software. Without such software, you will not
be able to do anything with the CHS CD-ROMs. If you already own software, just
check that it works with BSB Version 4 files.
