Designed for a driver and a navigator, your confidence to explore will develop through the use of the Guidebook's handy Number System. Numbers appear both in driving instructions and on the map. Each number refers to the same intersection. Thus the driving instructions in the text are united with the maps.

With any Number you will be provided with:
  • a turn instruction
  • location on a map ... and possibly local tourist information, nearest gas, general store, ATM and restaurant
  • extensive websites are provided as well as enlarged maps for circular hikes
SideRoads to Cottage Country consists of a Main Route Tour which starts near Newmarket and takes a counter-clockwise route around Lake Simcoe. This is a guidebook which is not designed to be driven in one day. There are five Excursion tours which are extensions of the Main Route Tour, and give more options, especially for mini-vacations.

Background information:

This is a guidebook which is not designed to be driven in one day. The main route of over 300 km goes round lake Simcoe in a counter-clockwise direction. However there are excursions which divert from this route into four of the popular cottage regions: Kawarthas, Haliburton, Muskoka and Huronia. A further excursion will take you along the south shore of Lake Simcoe. Ideas for short vacations are given in the guidebook. Also recommended is a waterfall sidetrip which begins in Haliburton village and goes to Kinmount.
