Description:

Want to gain enough confidence to turn off the beaten track? Then turn to SideRoad GuideBooks for inspiration. These self-directed guides are designed for people wishing to experience the beauty and charm of rural Ontario. The books are small enough to keep in your glove compartment.

Each GuideBook includes pictures and tourist information about the countryside travelled through. While all tours start and finish in towns or at major intersections, you decide whether to complete the suggested tour in one day or do only part of the journey.

Designed for a driver and a navigator, your confidence to explore will develop through the use of the Guidebook's handy Number System. Numbers appear both in driving instructions and on the map. Each number refers to the same intersection. Thus the driving instructions in the text are united with the maps.

With any Number you will be provided with:
  • a turn instruction
  • location on a map ... and possibly local tourist information, nearest gas, general store, ATM and restaurant
  • extensive websites are provided as well as enlarged maps for circular hikes
Niagara Escarpment SideRoads: Orangeville to Hamilton consists of a Main Tour and a Hamilton Waterfall Excursion Tour. Both follow the Niagara Escarpment. The Main Tour is between Orangeville and Mt Nemo in north Burlington. The Excursion Tour circles Hamilton visiting Waterdown, near Dundas, Ancaster, Hamilton Mountain, Stoney Creek and Burlington. There are numerous Conservation Areas which provide both hiking and other noteworthy attractions.

Table of Contents:
  • Using the maps and how to get to to this tour/Points of Interest
  • Orangeville to Burlington and back
  • Forks of the Credit Prov. Park
  • Hamilton Waterfall Excursion
  • Trails in the Royal Botanical Gardens
  • Trails
  • Museums in Hamilton
  • Tourist Information, Websites and B&Bs

Background information:

These tours have numerous Conservation Areas which provide both hiking and other noteworthy attractions. At Mountsberg you can see the raptors being flown while at Crawford Lake there is a reconstructed 1st Nations village. Other historical sites include the Cheltenham brickworks and Rockwood woollen mill.
