New amendments to the Criminal Code and related criminal legislation in the 2009 edition include:
  • The Tackling Violent Crime Act, S.C. 2008, c. 6 received Royal Assent on February 28, 2008. Sections 2 - 17, 28 - 38, 54 and 58 of the Act came into force on May 1, 2008. They include amendments to the Code which relate to crimes such as: breaking and entering; offences involving firearms, and sex crimes. Section 18 - 27 and 39 - 53 of the Act came into force July 1, 2008. They include amendments to the Code which relate to crimes such as: drug-impaired driving and “driving over”.
The majority of the provisions of An Act to amend certain Acts in relation to DNA Identification, S.C. 2007, c. 22 and An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the DNA Identification Act and the National Defence Act, S.C. 2005, c. 25 came into force January 1, 2008. Together they overhaul the forensic DNA analysis provisions of the Code.

This year’s edition also a includes a CD-ROM which contains the full text of The 2009 Annotated Tremeear’s Criminal Code along with the full text of the cases summarized within the main work.
