About the Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

On May 1, 2006, an Order in Council was issued defining the terms of reference for the Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182, which occurred on June 23, 1985. The Honourable John C. Major, Q.C., was appointed Commissioner under Part 1 of the Inquiries Act. In September 2006, the Government of Canada launched the Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of the Air India Flight 182 in order to provide answers to questions that remain unsolved. The Inquiry was conducted in two stages. During the first stage, the Commissioner heard voluntary testimony from the families of the victims. Stage two dealt with matters set out in clause (b) of the Order in Council. Mark J. Freiman was the Commission's Lead Counsel. Michel Dorval was the Commission's Co-Counsel.

Commissioner John Major issued his final report with recommendations, titled Air India Flight 182: A Canadian Tragedy, on June 17, 2010.
