Covering the BC interior, the Thompson Okanagan BC Backroad
Mapbook is a must-have for the outdoor adventurer. The Kettle Valley
Railway, now a part of the Trans-Canada Trail, is probably the best-known trail
in the area (open to hikers, bikers, horseback riders and ATVers), but there
are spectacular trails (mostly hiking only) in Cathedral and Wells Grey
Provincial Parks (which also has the regions best canoeing). Anglers will
love the many smaller, higher elevation lakes in this region, but some of the
best fishing to be had is for steelhead along the Thompson River, one of the
provinces most storied steelhead rivers.
In winter, this area is
known for having some of the best cross-country skiing at places like
Nickle-plate and Sovereign Lake. In the last decade, the interior resorts like
Sun Peaks, Big White, Silver Star and Apex have really come into their own, and
are now attracting an international clientele, who love the dry champagne
powder this area receives. And snowmobilers will find Graystokes offers one of
the biggest riding areas in the province.
