Description:
The Insurance Companies Act of Canada, Regulations and Guidelines 2009 is a complete portable reference source for the federal legislation and regulations governing insurers and for the administrative guidelines issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions to supplement the regulatory regime.

Each section of the Insurance Companies Act is cross-referenced to other relevant sections of the Act, as well as to any related regulations, guidelines, instruction guides, fee schedules, forms and rulings.

The book also includes the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Act and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada Act and those parts of the regulations under those Acts that affect insurers. An extensive index makes for easy access by subject to all of the documents that are included, in their full text, in the book.

The 2009 edition incorporates various changes from the previous edition, including the addition of:
  • an amendment to the Act introduced by the Budget Implementation Act, 2008;
  • the text of two new Regulations and an amending Regulation made under the Act;
  • the text of a new Guideline to assist insurance companies in establishing policies and procedures to assess the suitability and integrity of board members and senior management; and
  • amendments to the Guidelines governing the adequacy of capital for property and casualty insurance companies and for life insurance companies.
The legislation cited in this edition is current to Canada Gazette Part II 142:24 (November 26, 2008). The Guidelines and Bulletins are current to November 2008.
