A significant new piece of legislation called the Employment Protection for Foreign Nationals Act (Live-in Caregivers and Others), 2009, which came into force on March 22, 2010. This legislation contains employment-related protections for foreign nationals who are working or looking for work in Ontario, and incorporates by cross-reference many provisions of the ESA, 2000.
The Ministry of Labour's education, outreach and partnership initiative, which commenced in 2009, with the goals of helping employers and employees to understand their rights and obligations under the ESA, 2000, providing employers with resources and tools to help them comply with the ESA, 2000, and reducing the incidence of employment standards claims.
The Ministry of Labour's Employment Standards Task Force, which was formed in August 2010 with the goal of eliminating a backlog of approximately 14,000 employment standards claims.
