Description:

Interaction Canada Pre-SLE Session - Level C, Oral Interaction Interview is part of the Communicative English at Work Program (CEWP), Canada School of Public Service. The objective of the session is to prepare students for the Second Language Evaluation (SLE) Oral Interaction (OI) interview.

Interaction Canada, will help federal government employees to communicate effectively in English at Level C. They will be able to give detailed explanations and descriptions, justify an action, handle hypothetical questions, give advice, and deal with complex situations within a work setting.

Publications released so far consist of a book for students and a Teacher’s Guide for teachers who wish to have a better working knowledge of the Level C Oral Interaction Interview (OI).

The book for students consists of session contents, interviews, follow up and feedback, where the session provides an opportunity for students to review and consolidate the Level C functions learned throughout the course and further develop their competence in the following aspects of oral communication:
  • grammar
  • vocabulary
  • fluency
  • pronunciation
The contents of the Session focus on the functions tested by the OI. This includes practice, review and consolidation class activities. Group and individual activities will allow an ongoing evaluation of each student so that teachers can provide feedback to permit students to use their Self-Directed Learning (SDL) periods to maximum advantage either in group or individual activities.

The Teacher’s Guide also gives some examples of the key questions and techniques that are used by the OI assessors to get a useable sample of language to establish the level of bilingualism. These questions and techniques may be used and adapted by the teacher in the practice and simulation interviews. Part A explains the focus, form and philosophy of the OI, and how it unfolds. It also gives some examples of the key questions and techniques that are used by the OI assessors to get a useable sample of language to establish the level of bilingualism. Part B discusses the difference between the practice interview and simulation interview as used in language training and the various methods of correction that can be used to help the student best prepare for the OI. It also has a section of practical advice to the teacher and interviewer.

Expect where noted, the individual titles are available in spiral-bound softcover.
