Description:

A complete tool for learning to produce the sounds, rhythm and intonation of French.

Good pronunciation: A Question of Credibility:
Anyone who has learned a foreign language will recall situations where poor pronunciation has resulted in misunderstandings or caused surprise or even embarrassment. No one likes to see credibility undermined by poor pronunciation. Amélioration de la prononciation offers a variety of activities and correction techniques to produce the sounds, rhythm and intonation of French.

Phonetics: Accessible to Everyone:
This is a collection of up-to-date material dealing with phonetics in a simple, practical and complete manner. The books in the collection are completely non-technical. Theory is minimized in favour of observation and practice. You do not have to be a specialist to understand them.

Improve Pronunciation by Listening Carefully:
Amélioration de la prononciation places emphasis first and foremost on listening. Good pronunciation requires careful listening. Sounds in one language may not exist in another language. Rhythm and intonation also differ from one language to another. That is why it is essential to thoroughly retrain auditory perception. It is estimated that auditory discrimination must be 80 percent accurate before production can be effective.

Natural, Correct Language:
Amélioration de la prononciation deals with correct French as spoken in Canada.

Self-learning or Group Instruction:
The material contains everything needed for successful learning or instruction. The explanations and instructions are clear and complete. The activities are reproduced on cassette, with measured response times and appropriate answers. A transcript and answer key are provided at the end of each book. It should be noted that Initiation à l'alphabet phonétique du français is designed for completely independent use.

Content:
The collection deals with all the oral vowels, the nasals and the semi-consonants, and the most problematic consonants. In each book, sounds, rhythm and intonation are covered in five phases: discovery, perception, discrimination, repetition and production.

Language Used:
The material is in French, except for the instructions, which are in French and English. Recorded instructions are in English.

Clientele:
The material is suitable for a wide range of clients, even though the design is based on an excellent knowledge of the problems experienced by learners whose mother tongue is English.
