Immigration Practitioner’s Handbook 2008

Useful for practitioners and students, as well as immigration or refugee decision-makers, journalists, or researchers who must consult primary immigration law on a frequent basis, the Immigration Practitioner’s Handbook is designed as a practical tool and should serve as a reference book for students enrolled in immigration consulting courses throughout Canada. It is also designed to assist immigration consultants in preparing for the Professional Standards Exam, which all current consultants must pass to become a member of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC).

The 2008 edition includes the following new items: a summary of Provincial Nominee Programs, a practice paper on Leave Applications in Federal Court and a checklist on considerations in spousal cases.

Immigration Practitioner’s Handbook contains secondary material in three categories:

  • IRPA Summaries – These provide accessible summaries of the legislative provisions concerning the business and refugee classes. The four areas of investors, entrepreneurs, self-employed persons and refugees were selected as benefiting from a brief coherent overview of the statutory provisions, especially for those new to the topic.
  • Practice Papers – Here you will find more detailed commentary and comprehensive assistance for practitioners in two subject areas: assessing criminal inadmissibility, preparing inland humanitarian and compassionate submissions, and leave applications in Federal Court.
  • Checklists – These provide helpful lists for the busy practitioner in areas where counsel may be advising clients.
