Written by Lance Goddard. Published by Dundurn Press, 2007. Description: |
Although it has been overshadowed by other events of the Second
World War, Canadas role in the Italian Campaign was significant and this
pictorial history examines the events from the viewpoint of the soldier serving
on the ground who were attached to a variety of regiments. Canadian forces
played a major role in this campaign, whose goal was to open a second front in
order to ease the pressure on Russian forces in the east. Canada fought under
British command alongside British and American units, but our soldiers saw some
of the fiercest fighting and achieved glory many times, including at the Battle
of Ortona, one of Canadas greatest military
accomplishments. Hell and High Water examines the Italian Campaign from the point of view of the soldiers there. Regiments represented in interviews in this book include the Princess Patricias Light Infantry, the Perth Regiment, the Governor Generals Horse Guards, the Ontario Regiment, the 48th Highlanders, the Calgary Regiment, the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, and the Royal Canadian Dragoons, along with the Royal Canadian Navy. With a foreword by Colonel Sydney Frost. Also from Lance Goddard: Canada and the Liberation of the Netherlands, May 1945 D-Day: Juno Beach, Canadas 24 Hours of Destiny |
