Prepared under the auspices of the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes.
Published by the National Research Council of Canada, 2011.

Description:

The 2011 National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB), which incorporates significant technical changes from the 1997 edition, is intended to help you design energy-efficient buildings. It does not apply to farm buildings nor to housing and smaller buildings covered in Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada (NBC). Energy efficiency requirements for smaller buildings and housing are scheduled to be published in late 2012.

The 2011 National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings provides minimum requirements for the design and construction of energy-efficient buildings and covers the building envelope, systems and equipment for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning, service water heating, lighting, and the provision of electrical power systems and motors. It applies to new buildings, as well as to substantial renovations in existing ones.

The new model code:
  • Provides energy efficiency improvements (25% on average over the 1997 edition) for almost all types of buildings
  • Contains 245 technical changes that address new technologies and construction practices
  • Is supported by the Government of Canada's ecoENERGY initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
The NECB is an objective-based code with each provision having related objective-based information, including objectives as well as functional statements. The NECB is a must-have for building designers, energy consultants and subcontractors, construction professionals and regulatory officials.
