Discovering First Peoples and First Contacts |
| Designed to meet the expectations for the Heritage and
Citizenship strand of the Ontario curriculum guidelines, the text covers the
history of Aboriginal Peoples and European explorers. Discovering First
Peoples and First Contacts looks at the theories that could possibly
explain the origins of Aboriginal peoples in the territory we now call Canada.
The cultures of Aboriginal groups is described in relation to the environmental
influences of the differing geographic regions of the country. There are
introductions to well-known European explorers, their motives for crossing the
Atlantic Ocean and their methods of doing so. Meetings between these Europeans
and the Aboriginal peoples are examined, as are the consequences of contact.
The text draws to a close with a look at the state of explorations by
Europeans, as well as an examination of the issues and concerns facing
Aboriginal peoples. Written in a two-page spread format for easy reading, the text is richly illustrated in full colour, with maps, illustrations, and photographs. |
