| Twenty-five young Canadian activists tell their revealing and
inspirational stories of what motivated them to take action to change the
world. How do members of the twenty-something generation see the world? What is their vision for the future? Notes From Canada's Young Activists: A Generation Stands Up For Change presents the stories of young Canadian citizens working to create a more sustainable, compassionate, and conscientious global society. These young activists describe how they were inspired to pursue their passion to improve their world and the innovative ways in which they chose to go about it. In the face of challenges such as burn-out, apathy, guilt and isolation, these young people were inspired by their experiences both at home and abroad to effect change on political, environmental, humanitarian and community levels. Their methods and causes are diverse: Miali-Elise Coley in Iqaluit organized a summer-camp program for less-privileged kids to get them out on the land; Craig Kielburger founded Free the Children to raise awareness about child labor; Tim Harvey biked and rowed around the globe to draw attention to climate change; Lyndsay Poaps became Vancouvers youngest elected official and served as a city park board commissioner for three years; George Roter founded Engineers without Borders, an organization dedicated to helping develop communities in Africa. Told with maturity but anchored in youthful idealism, these stories celebrate how young people are becoming leaders and are taking responsibility for their own and future generations. |
