  • Bureau defeats in the Newfoundland Taxi cartel case, and in its bid to delay implementation of a merger on the basis that it needed more time to investigate (Labatt/Lakeport).
  • Numerous measures by the Government of Canada designed to increase competition in the telecommunications sector, including giving a first-ever policy directive to the CRTC encouraging greater reliance on market forces, more rapid deregulation of many local voice telephony markets, and proposed legislation that would give the Tribunal the power to impose administrative monetary penalties (ie. civil fines), in an amount up to $15 million, on dominant telecom service providers for abuse of that dominance.
