Family problems can sometimes become contentious, especially during or following a divorce, when matters of custody and support are crucial. Often, an individual is faced with no alternative but to take the matter to court.

Family Court is division of the Provincial Court of British Columbia and is an informal setting where judges expect to deal with non-lawyers - people who are representing themselves. In Family Court you can get:

an order dealing with the custody and guardianship of children
an order dealing with maintenance for children
an order dealing with access to children
an order dealing with maintenance for a spouse
a no contact order
various orders supplementing the above

Please note, you cannot get a divorce order or an order for division of family assets in Family Court and those topics are not dealt with in this book.
