Description:

Models and activities that apply to everyday work situations

Information, Regulations and Advice:
La série verte gets users actively involved right from day one of their language training. Modules 1 and 2 enable users to ask for and give information. Modules 3 and 4 present them with scenarios in which they must either act in light of certain regulations or give advice.

The material, designed for totally self-directed learning, includes 60 activities in which comprehension and oral skills are constantly emphasized.

Applying the Model:
Module 1 provides everything needed to handle the factual data:
  • names, addresses, numbers, sums of money, time-related data
  • the interrogative and the conditional
  • everyday expressions
  • communication strategies (getting the person to repeat or reformulate what was said, maintaining contact, ...)
  • frequent questions and answers
Regulations and advice are the themes of Module 3:
  • inquiries on regulations and various answers to these inquiries
  • reactions to change
  • expressions for giving advice
  • expressions used to justify this advice
  • projects geared to users' individual situations
Modules 2 and 4 guide users as they prepare, carry out and evaluate four practical projects:
  • information session to present a program or procedures
  • oral presentation to communicate factual data
  • information meeting about a change in policy or a regulation
  • career orientation meeting
The key factors in effective communication are presented and illustrated in these modules. They examine such elements as the various parts of a presentation, choosing strategies adapted to one's audience and to the context, as well as the use of tables and graphics.

Choosing, Doing, Evaluating:
Users may choose those activities which are best suited to their interests and needs with the help of a selection table. To enable users to do the activities of their choice, the material gives them direction, and example and, if applicable, recordings. Depending on the nature of the activity, an answer key, a recording of the right answer or a self-evaluation form enable users to evaluate their performance.
