The Last Best West

In the years between 1896 and 1914, immigrant settlers descended on the Canadian West in droves. From the United States to Russia, from Germany to Iceland, they came to build homesteads at the invitation of the Canadian government.
The Last Best West recounts their experience in words and photos, including the early days of the government's promotional advertising beckoning immigrants "westward ho!" to the new promised land of the West. Learn of their experiences of church and school, and of the growth of settlements into cities and the birth of new "first-generation" Canadians. This is a fascinating look at some of the people who helped build our nation.
