Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric illnesses plaguing adults and children today. From panic disorder and specific phobias to generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder, it is estimated that a full 25 percent of the population will, at some point or another, grapple with anxiety's challenges. Remarkably, although these disorders are highly manageable, only about one-third of those suffering will receive treatment. In Anxiety Disorders, Dr. Paul Caldwell takes a compassionate and thoughtful look at the various forms of anxiety disorder.

Caldwell answers the following questions in an accessible, easy-to-understand language:
  • What are the predominate types of anxiety disorders, and how do they manifest?
  • What’s the difference between normal anxiety and a degree of anxiety that prevents us from leading a full life?
  • Is anxiety good for us, and if so, how?
  • What’s the difference between a panic attack and a phobia, and can one lead to the other?
  • Do anxiety disorders affect children in different ways than adults?
  • How can sufferers and their families cope?
  • What medical and non-medical treatment options exist?
