  • When the daffodils bloom, it's time to plant peas.
  • The purple saxifrage is Nunavut's provincial flower.
  • All Canadian bats are voracious consumers of insects.
  • Some man-made pesticides can be less toxic to us than natural ones.
Nora Bryan is a regular summer gardening columnist for The Calgary Herald and writes on gardening and environmental topics for many magazines. Her blog, Garden Buzz, is updated regularly online at the Herald. Nora is also a practising ISA Certified Arborist.

Joe LeBlanc enjoys the challenge of introducing native plants and new garden methods into the northern garden: his own garden, as well as clients' gardens. What could be more "at home" in our gardens than native plants that have evolved to flourish in our demanding Canadian ecosystems? Joseph has written articles for garden magazines with an emphasis on working with nature to build a beautiful garden that is also a healthy garden.
