Description:

The Bankruptcy Guide shows Canadians how to take control of their debt and avoid bankruptcy. Options other than bankruptcy are examined. If it turns out that bankruptcy or a proposal to your creditors is the only way for you to get a fresh start, the Bankruptcy Guide will give you the information you need to make an informed decision. With this book both individuals and small businesses in Canada can easily understand the options.

There have been tremendous changes in the insolvency field over the past fifteen years. Bankruptcies have more than doubled. More and more credit-counselling firms have opened up for business, fuelled by debtors’ desires to do almost anything to avoid going bankrupt. Credit grantors, in an attempt to dissuade people from filing bankruptcy, have also provided financial support to “non-profit” credit-counselling companies. It is no wonder that debtors are confused and often misinformed.
  • Determine whether bankruptcy is right for you
  • Learn about your other options so you can avoid bankruptcy
  • Get the facts on all aspects of insolvency
You will not find moral judgments here — simply the straight facts, in plain English, on all aspects of the insolvency industry so that individuals and small businesses can make the best decision on how to get a fresh financial start.

Author Earl Sands, MBA, CGA, CIRP, is a trustee in bankruptcy. He founded his bankruptcy firm in 1990. When he sold his practice in late 2001, his firm had six offices and was handling the largest number of personal bankruptcies and proposals in British Columbia. He contributed to the personal bankruptcy training course material that is studied by would-be trustees in bankruptcy.
